Erie Metroparks - Nature Center

Erie County Park District

Erie MetroParks contracted with Thomas Porter Architects as the Architect of Record
for their new nature center located within the Osborn MetroPark in Huron, Ohio. When
the park system completed a building assessment of their existing facility at Osborn
MetroPark they found the building to be beyond economical repair. This information
guided the Board of Park Commissioners and park officials to begin a capital campaign
to raise money for a new building.

The design of the nature center focuses on energy efficiency, and includes two classroom spaces that double as community meeting spaces, built-in live animal areas, a turtle pond, exhibit areas, administrative offices, and a window-on-nature viewing area for the park’s 50,000 annual visitors. The building will further their mission of “connecting the communtiy with nature through education and exploration”.

Thomas Porter Architects partnered with Turner Construction as General Contractor,
LKL for Structural Engineering, Feller Finch for Civil Engineering, and MDA for MEP
Engineering on this project.
